"What place does today's society leave to the dreamers and lovers of the great outdoors?"
- Luc Jacquet -
The white continent is still an untouched gem, one of the last wilderness on our planet.
Antarctica yacht expedition 2027
This top range trip is for 6 people maximum (full trip, waiting list only)
When we think about Antarctica, our imagination go wild.
The feeling of purity, gigantic icebergs out of sight, kingdom of whales, the mighty leopard seal, epic journey, clumsy penguins on land that become inquisitive rockets as soon as they enter the water, ...
Let's say the dream of Antarctica is only a cheap copy of the reality.
There are few options to visit it, the best one is undoubtedly on a sailboat, that has so many advantages compared to larger boats like :
- reaching the most stunning places that bigger boats can't
- small group for the best wildlife experience
- the schedule can be changed anytime. For exemple if a place is particularly rich in wildlife, we can decide to stay longer
- activities are more flexibles (snorkeling, zodiac cruises, landfalls)
- gives a feeling of freedom and being a pioneer like the great explorers a century ago.

what to expect :
Antarctica is an explorer and photographer paradise.
We'll sail the waters of the Austral ocean in the middle of gigantic icebergs and mountain ranges.
We'll focus on the rich wildlife of the west side of peninsula.
We'll navigate through the fabulous Lemaire Channel, maybe the most beautiful in the world.
We'll zodiac cruise in the middle of iceberg graveyards and patrol the coasts looking for seals to snorkel with.
February is migrating whale season so we'll enjoy whales almost everyday, it could be humpbacks, Minke, southern right whales.
We'll enter the territory of orcas and focus on them, especially the B type known to kill seals on ice, using many different maneuvers like making big waves.
Seals will be seen in large numbers, and snorkeling with a leopard seal is an unforgettable moment. We'll seize all opportunities.
Finally, what would the frozen continent be without penguins? We'll see thousands of them, either on land walking near their colony, on icebergs, or even snorkeling with massive raft of them.
We'll anchor in pristine coves, where everything can be seen.

About our boat : The Podorange
Podorange is one of 13 Challenge 67, racing boat built in England in 1996 (plans David Thomas). He attended the renowned Global Challenge 96/97 (Race around the world, upside down, and crewed with stops).
Perfectly adapted to the polar regions, our yacht offers all the safety and comfort required for expeditions and cruises in the Southern regions. It has a high autonomy and high capacity (9 people in addition to the crew).
The sleeping cabin is a double / single bed layered ultra comfort at sea. Our vessel has two bathrooms and two toilets, easy to use. As for water, our watermaker keeps us in complete autonomy. Everyone can even take a hot shower every day!
Regarding the equipment, of course we offer the opportunity for our crew to reload their different electronic equipment (laptop, phone, camera, etc.).
Podorange is comfortable sailing boat, equipped with modern navigation systems and efficient means of telecommunication (Phone Mini-M satellite, audio-visual and computer)
She is also a clean and environmentally friendly boat (especially to meet the standards of IAATO (International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators). Thus, to reduce the use of the generator, we are equipped with a wind turbine last generation and to avoid any discharge of dirty water, Podorange has a large reservoir of dirty waters.
The mood / atmosphere
No need to be in love with the sea or sailing enthusiasts to embark on our boat: What we'll discover, it is primarily the wild beauty of the Southern regions, the still preserved richness of their environment, and some travelling spirit (curiosity, friendliness, respect and sharing are the key words).
Traveling on a sailboat is both a privilege and a requirement
Privilege:
the yacht is the only mode of transport to reach places inaccessible: anchor at the foot of glaciers, discover the wildest shores, alongside the fauna and flora of the South, approach the beautiful bays of the Antarctica.
One requirement:
The ship, however great it may be, is a small living space. For the stay of our team to remains an exceptional memory for them, we ask them to participate in the life on board (night shifts, if any, participating in maneuvers, etc.). A boat is not a floating hotel, it is a community where everyone must be involved so that the stay takes place for the better.

Life aboard
Keep in mind that this adventure isn't for everybody and can be challenging for many reasons
Even if the boat is particularly comfortable you have to prepare for small spaces like tights sleeping quarters.
You'll be part of the team, that means early morning watches during the crossing, participating to maneuvers the crew could kindly ask you (don't worry if no sailing experience, you'll be briefed), dish washing.
The spirit of comradery is essential, that's why I'll send you a questionnaire about your mind and your goals if you're interested to join us.
This experience is so rewarding, it worths to shake up the routine a bit.
Mealtimes are structured most of the time but on big days when the Nature offers us her best, eating may not be our priority...Don't worry, there's plenty of food everywhere on the boat, (too) easily accessible anytime!
Any dietary requirements, feel free to tell us, we can arrange it (vegetarian, etc...)
Feel free also to ask us any question about the life onboard.
The itinerary
This trip is dedicated to the wildlife, so we chose the wildlife hotspots. We'll seize every opportunities to get in the water with the wildlife. The key word about our expedition is ADAPTATION.
Adaptation to the wildlife but to the weather as well.
The itinerary is weather dependent. We are on a sailboat, so SAFETY first.
The Drake crossing lasts 3-4 days each ways. It's an adventure in itself, especially when we sail alongside the iconic albatross in the Beagle channel or when we pass the Cape Horn. It can be agitated so we suggest to bring some seasickness pills or patch. However the crossing is quickly forgotten as soon as we see our first iceberg and our firsts penguins.
February is austral summer time, the weather is about 0 celsius but can be -10 to +10 Celsius. The air is pretty dry. Water temperature is 0 +/- 1 celsius. The night time is short.
The weather is unpredictable, from bright sunny days to snow falls. Snowy days offer remarkable landscape et picture opportunities of penguins in the snow.
The peninsula is a vast area, weather is often different from one place to another. Our crew is extremely careful about that, we'll sail and anchor automatically to safe places.
Don't worry, each part of the peninsula is a gem, if we can't sail to our original spot because of the weather we have some backups equally awesome, just keep in mind we could face some itinerary modifications related to conditions.
